WAYFARER CHECK LIST 2006
This guide is for winning! Your boat may vary in having bailers open
when stored, burgee fitted to masthead etc. The main thing is to minimise the
checks required at sea and get the best start to the day! Good Luck!
- Check tides and weather.
- Inspect boat position (debris, tie
down, cover wheels and tyres).
- Remove Cover. Wipe down excess
water and remove cover grit.
- Inventory check including tool and
First Aid Box.
- Attach sails and hoist Burgee.
- Remove sail bags, anchor, and
paddles as required.
- Set Genoa sheeting positions.
- Drain any water and insert bungs.
- Check underside for damage, gasket
especially remove any grim and salt crystal build-up.
- Check rudder for damage to foil
and test screws for tightness with screwdriver and check for fatigue in
fittings.
- Check and adjust Toe straps as
required.
- Check course
book is present and likely courses.
- Load food and drink, sunglasses,
gloves, hat.
- Hoist sails and tune for weather.
Explain to crew why and what is expected.
- Check all fitting are secure
especially rings and pins on shrouds and control lines are clear.

Check that the spinnaker rigged
correctly and ready to hoist.
- Check Crew is equipped for race
(Buoyancy aid, warm and spare clothing, hat and gloves).
